'An American Opera' plays June 13

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Documentary filmmaker and Michigan native Tom McPhee spent more than three years on a project to document the pet rescue in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

The award-winning film, titled "An American Opera" will play at the Waterfront Film Festival at 11:30 a.m. June 13. The documentary will also be screened at 6:15 p.m. July 2 at The Harbor Theater in Muskegon and at 2:15 p.m. on July 19 at the Grandville Public Schools auditorium.

Screenings of "An American Opera" will partially benefit local animal charities.

McPhee's "Man Smiling Moving Pictures" is based in Ann Arbor.
