GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A zombie walk, paper airplanes, a gigantic waterslide, and now a Lip Dub.
Events planner Rob Bliss unveiled his latest community project early Wednesday morning, a plan that would bring thousands of people downtown to sing "American Pie" while being filmed in one long take.
In a lip dub, one camera travels around on a set route and records people doing pre-determined actions, such as singing and dancing.
Bliss said he was inspired to organize this lip dub to prove Newsweek magazine is wrong to call Grand Rapids a dying city.
"Can a huge city come together to make a huge video? That's what we're trying to do," he said.
In a press release, Bliss sees a "crowd of thousands, choirs, parades, motorcades, local celebrities, weddings, football teams, marching bands, dancers, helicopter take offs...to show the world a city that is thriving like it never has before."
Creo Productions will handle the video with an assist from Compass Film Academy. Rehearsals will take place throughout April.
The event is set for Sunday, May 15. If you want to participate in the event, you should be downtown by 10 a.m.
Rob Bliss works at WOOD TV8.
