GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Dave Conrad, the popular afternoon radio host on B-93, went public Thursday with his need for a new kidney.
Conrad suffers from polycystic kidney disease . About three years ago, he was injured in a motorcycle accident and the cysts broke. His kidneys began to fail, and in 2008 he began dialysis.
The station launched Team Conrad on their website and on Facebook in an effort to both raise awareness and help him find a match.
"I've kept it kind of quiet, not just with my listeners but there are people here that I work with every day that didn't know," he said. "Everybody's a private person or whatever. You don't want anyone to treat you different."
Conrad said he decided to go public with this information on this, World Kidney Day. "A lot of people don't know about living donors," he said. "They can make a difference in someone's life."
