GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - There's one question on Grand Rapids May 4 ballot that won't cost taxpayers any money.
City officials are asking voters to approve a change to the city's charter that defines a work day for a city employee as eight hours.
But the rule has prevented the city from shortening employee work hours, and trimming the number of days City Hall is open.
"We have no immediate plans for altering the work week," said Grand Rapids City Manager Greg Sundstrom. "But this would give us greater flexibility, at least eliminate the prohibition from looking at that."
