GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder has named 33-year-old conservative state Rep. Brian Calley as his running mate.
Snyder made the announcement Wednesday afternoon on stage at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. About 100 Snyder supporters gathered for the announcement and a Snyder town hall meeting in the auditorium.
A former banker, Calley has been a state representative from Portland since 2007. He led the House Republican campaign effort in 2008.
Calley doesn't have much of the legislative experience that Snyder lacks, but he's expected to help the more moderate Snyder shore up his support among tea party supporters and other GOP conservatives.
Democratic Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is expected to pick a running mate this week.
