PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - With eight days until Michigan voters pick their next governor, Republican nominee Rick Snyder rallied supporters and volunteers in Portage on Monday.
The Ann Arbor businessman repeated familiar themes: repeal the state's business tax and replace it with a flat corporate income tax, improve the regulatory climate and create a positive vision for the state.
He said Michigan needs to move beyond its past eras of natural resources and industrial growth -- and begin an era of innovation that relies upon the entrepreneurship that fueled the other eras of the state's past.
That's what's needed to grow jobs, the candidate said.
Snyder was introduced by former state House Speaker Charles Perricone of Kalamazoo County. Portage was the gubernatorial nominee's third Monday stop in southwestern Michigan, after stops in Niles and Quincy.
He's set to visit Holland on Wednesday.
