LANSING, Mich. (AP) - New leaders continue to emerge in the Michigan Legislature.
Republicans picked their leaders Tuesday afternoon for the legislative session starting in January.
Sen. Randy Richardville of Monroe was chosen the next Senate majority leader. Rep. James "Jase" Bolger of Marshall is likely in line to become the new House speaker as Republicans regain control of the chamber. Republicans were to have their election later Tuesday.
State Senator-Elect Dave Hildenbrand (R-Lowell) was selected as Assistant Majority Leader of the Michigan State Senate.
"I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues to serve in this important role as we strengthen our economy and reform our state government, said Hildenbrand in a statement released to the media. "I am eager to get to work with Governor-elect Snyder and my colleagues in the State Senate and House on the critical task of reinventing Michigan."
Senate Democrats already have picked Sen. Gretchen Whitmer of East Lansing to be their leader starting in 2011.
House Democrats also are expected to pick their next leader Tuesday. Term-limited House Speaker Andy Dillon will be joining Republican Gov.-elect Rick Snyder's administration.
