Scans, pat downs could be more friendly, he said

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - At his office in Holland, outgoing House Intelligence Committee member Pete Hoekstra told 24 Hour News 8 extra security is necessary at airports around the country.

As travellers geared up for the busy holiday season, increased griping about the intrusiveness of the pre-board searches is being heard across the land, and as an incident at Logan Airport in Boston once again riveted attention on cargo.

Hoekstra said that while the extra security through body scans and pat downs is necessary, it might have been implemented in a more customer-friendly way.

But the combination of terrorist threats have made it clear they want to attack the US, and increased "chatter" picked up by the intelligence community make the extra precautions very important.

Hoekstra is leaving office voluntarily. He ran for governor - a race won by Rick Snyder - and Bill Huizenga will replace him as the representative for Michigan's 2nd US District.
