GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Bill Hardiman officially entered the race to replace Vern Ehlers as the United States Congressman from Michigan's 3rd District.
Hardiman, currently a state senator representing the 29th District, made the announcement at Hascall Steel Corporation in Grandville.
He emphasized the economy and jobs in his remarks. Tipping his hat to Gerald Ford, Paul Henry and Ehlers, Hardiman said in a statement, "Anyone who seeks to represent this area in congress has an extremely high standard to look up at, and to aspire to. After encouragement from so many throughout the area, when (my wife) Clova and I considered the opportunity to put our hat in the ring for this office, we discussed it with family and close friends, and prayed for wisdom and guidance from the Lord."
He joins Justin Amash as the only other officially announced candidate to replace Ehlers on the GOP side. On the Democratic side, Paul Mayhue has announced, and others are expected to join in soon.
