EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero says he would restore the appointment of the state agriculture director to the Agriculture Commission if elected governor.
Bernero said Monday morning during a Michigan Public Radio Network program hosted by Rick Pluta that agribusiness is flourishing and the commission has done a good job appointing past directors.
The Lansing mayor said he'd have no trouble reversing Gov. Jennifer Granholm's executive order that gave the governor responsibility for the appointment.
He also says he would ask for more belt-tightening at state universities while restoring the Michigan Promise college scholarship program.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder will take questions from Pluta and listeners on Friday morning.
