GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A fresh face - either Republican Justin Amash or Democrat Pat Miles - will represent Michigan's 3rd Congressional District seat being vacated by the retiring Vern Ehlers.
Amash announced his intention to run for Ehlers seat one day before Ehlers announced his retirement. He was quickly joined in the GOP field by Bill Hardiman, Steve Heacock, Louise Johnson and Bob Overbeek.
Veteran politician Paul Mayhue jumped in for the Democrats, as did first-time candidate Miles.
Amash claimed victory around 11 p.m., and Miles easily beat Mayhue.
