GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - You don't have to look far to find someone battling cancer. Whether it's your mother, brother, cousin, neighbor or teacher, everyone has been touched by cancer in some way.
The Van Andel Institute is committed to research that will better diagnose and treat cancer with the goal of finding a cure. The Van Andel Institute is fighting back again disease and you can too. Purple Community - 100% Hope is a way for anyone in the community to create a fundraising event based on your personal passion. It could be a walkathon, motorcycle rally, sporting event or a simple bake sale.
The Grand Rapids Griffins have taken on the cause and for the second year in row are hosting a Purple Community Hockey Game. On Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m., the Grand Rapids Griffins will be taking the ice in purple jerseys to honor all cancer survivors and to celebrate survivors for years to come. The first 10,000 through the door will receive a free purple t-shirt and the concession stands will be filled with purple snow cones, purple popcorn and even purple cupcakes!
The best part about the event is that 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit the research at the Van Andel Institute. Last year the event raised $27,000 and this year the goal is $40,000! You can purchase tickets in advance at the VanAndel Arena Box Office or at the door.
