LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (WOOD) - Hockey players are helping the hounds with an annual fall walk-a-thon to benefit Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary. The Grand Rapids Griffins' Pups and Pucks event steps off October 15 in Lake Odessa for the fifth time. In the past four years, walkers have raised enough money to break ground on the new on-site veterinary clinic! The BISSELL Pet Foundation put up $10,000 towards a goal of $91,500 and now community support is needed to equip the building with necessary medical gear to enable Mackenzie's to spay and neuter dogs, provide dental services, x-rays, laboratory work and preventative medical care at their location, saving thousands in gas to drive dogs to the vet's office. A more effective clinic will help furthering Mackenzie's mission of providing the highest standards of care for the dogs in their care that are awaiting their forever homes.
