GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - One of the largest quilt shows in the country is in West Michigan for the very first time. The AQS Quilt Show and Contest brings in 900 quilts, two international exhibits, demonstrations, sales, and classes to DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. We sent Jordan there to check it out with Van and Maggie of Gall Sewing and Vac Center. They have everything for your quilting needs. This is not your grandma's quilt circle. Now one of the fastest growing hobbies for all ages and generations, quilting takes center stage in this spectacular event. If you’re an avid quilter or you’ve never stitched a thread, the AQS show offers classrooms for all skills sets with a wide range of different topics plus great pieces of quilt art and numerous booths and vendors showcasing and selling materials, bags, and even wearable art. A huge contest took place at the show awarding more than $44,000 dollars in prize money. Each of the winning pieces of art are on display for attendees to check out.during the show which is on through August 25, 2012. Tickets are available at the door for $11 dollars for non-members and $9 a day for AQS members. There is also a multi-day admission price of $17 for members and $30 for non-members.
