GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Father's day is a big time for grilling, but anytime you want to add meat to your meal, you should know a bit about the cut that's coming to your plate. Allison Reed is a registered dietitian with Spartan Stores and she shares some tips for looking for healthy cuts of meat to grill.

What to look for:
Cut/Grind

    "Loin" - Sirloin, tenderloin,
"Breast" - Skinless chicken or turkey
"Round" - Top, bottom or eye of round roast
"90/10" - Ground meat 90% is lean, 10% is fat - beef, chicken, turkey

Visible fat:
    How much marbling is there?
    Fat around the edges?

How to prep it:
    Marinate and tenderize
Trim away fat that is around the edges of the cut
Breading and frying adds more fat and calories
Grill, broil, or bake - let fat drip away or drain it off.

Remember proper portion size!  A recommended portion is about three ounces, which is a cut of meat about the size of a deck of cards.
