GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - 74 years after "The Wizard of Oz" hit theaters back in 1939, Michigan native Sam Raimi is taking viewers back in time to show how it all began.
"Oz: The Great and Powerful" is inspired by the first of L. Frank Baum's 14 books about the Land of Oz called the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" published in 1900. In the story viewers get to see how a Kansas magician became the Wizard and how the Wicked Witch came to be. You also get the back story of the Wizard, Glinda and the Wicked Witches sister, Evanora.
The movie opens on Friday, March 8 at theaters nation-wide. The film was shot in 3D and is being released in traditional 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D and D-BOX formats.
