TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WOOD) - It's said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, but you may not think of it as a year round hot spot.
This week, we're exploring Traverse City, a place with so much to see and do every month of the year, including the holiday season. Jordan spent a day there recently and shared fab finds for shopping with us yesterday, and today, it's all about food.  Traverse City has been named One of America's Top Five Foodie Towns by Bon Appetit Magazine.  Livability.com listed Traverse City in First Place among the Top 10 Surprising Foodie Towns after surveying 200 American cities.  Traverse City is home to the Great Lakes Culinary Institute whose graduates staff many of the area's better kitchens.  A growing group of creative, talented chefs enhance their menus with local produce, meats, wines and artisan beers.  Check out fabulous Traverse City cuisine! If you're looking to head somewhere during Christmas break with the family, there's plenty going on in Traverse City.  On Christmas day, kids can ski free with Santa at Schuss Mountain at the Shanty Creek Resorts and they've also got free skiing at Summit Mountain on New Year's Eve and fireworks over the mountain to ring in the new year.  There are several festivals throughout January, February and March that are definitely worth a drive north, from the Traverse City Winter Microbrew and Music Festival to the Cherry Capital Winter Wow Fest and, of course, Restaurant Week.  Make Traverse City your destination soon!
