GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Great Lakes Shipwrecks: Storms and Stories, is currently on display at the Grand Rapids Pubic Museum. This exhibit tells the stories of human tragedy, heroism, survival and discovery behind a selection of thousands of vessels that lie wrecked on the bottom of the Great Lakes.
Now through November, visitors can tour the exhibit as part of regular museum admission.
On Saturday, January 19, the Museum will be holding a special lecture in connection to the exhibit. Bill Helmholdt of Kentwood will share the history of famous wrecks below the waves including the Edmond Fitzgerald, Chicora, Milwaukee and Eastland. Helmholdt, who created the ships models in the exhibition, will share fascinating details about all of them.
The lecture will take place from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and a tour of the exhibition will immediately follow. Admission is $2, and the program will be held in the Meijer Theatre.
