GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Frederik Meijer Gardens is aglow with holiday spirit! The annual Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World event brings 300,000 lights, strolling carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides and 42 international trees and displays to this Grand Rapids landmark. The exhibition includes the Railway Garden, a unique horticultural display that incorporates garden design, miniature models of Grand Rapids area buildings made from natural materials, and model trolleys and trains that delight guests of all ages. A new display at the entrance to the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory will be kadomatsu, a traditional Japanese New Year decoration. Placed in pairs representing male and female, kadomatsu are made primarily of three natural elements. Bamboo symbolizes strength and growth; pine represents vitality and longevity; and plum blossoms signify new beginnings. During the extended holiday hours, Meijer Gardens will be open until 9 p.m. December 20 through 22 and 26 through 29. Enjoy art activities, see reindeers, take a carriage ride or hop on a holiday trolley and enjoy the splendor today!
