GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Women’s Resource Center advocates for women to achieve economic independence through meaningful employment. Their programs and services empower and educate women and prepare them for sustainable employment. Women’s Resource Center uses a combination of professional, experienced staff and carefully trained volunteers to mentor participants regarding securing a permanent job.
Making the right first impression is an important part of job seeking and interviewing. Recognizing this fact, the Working Women’s Clothing Closet provides participants with up to three complete professional outfits including accessories. This support not only enhances a participant’s marketability, but also increases her self-confidence. Customers receive an hour and a half to work with the Women's Resource Center's “personal shoppers” and helping to select appropriate and flattering professional clothing and accessories. The volunteers also share information on dressing for success. Individuals and businesses in West Michigan are encouraged to donate gently used, high quality professional clothing and accessories to support this effort.
Another way to support the Women's Resource Center is to attend their annual Pillar Awards, which honor West Michigan employers who engage in best practices that empower the women in their workplaces. Since 1987 this award has showcased noteworthy efforts of local employers who are pillars of support to women in our community. This year three incredibly worthy organizations will be honored: Express Employment Professionals, Porter Hills Retirement Communities & Services and 30-2-2.
