GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - While many people around the world are celebrating Halloween, people in Mexico and other cultures celebrate  "Dia de los Muertos" or Day of the Dead.  It starts on November 1 and on the surface, appears to have some similarities to our Halloween holiday. It's actually a time for people honor family and friends who've passed on.  Rachael caught up with a local artist who's celebrated the holiday to find out what it means to her, and how it's inspired her art.  You can see Alynn Guerra's amazing work at a big event, the Open Studio Sale where her studio is located, inside the Tanglefoot Building in Grand Rapids.  Every year, the artists there hold the event as an opportunity to pick up some cool art and meet the person who created it.  The Tanglefoot event is Friday, November 16 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m..  If you're interested in learning more about Day of the Dead, the Grand Rapids Public Library is holding a special event from November 1 - 4 where the library will showcase altars made by members of the community, honoring members of their families.  On November 3 from Noon to 3 p.m., families are invited in for refreshments, a sugar skull craft, and face painting for kids.  All of these library events are free!
