AmpuTeam supports amputees

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Necessity is the mother of invention and that's what brought help to amputees across Michigan.  Wright and Filippis provides a  variety of home health care services including a team-oriented approach to prosthetic care for amputees.  Rob Tuck, Regional Manager for Wright and Filippis and Alyssa Iacoboni, an AmpuTeam participant explain the program and the benefits it provides.  Wright and Filippis was founded by Tony Filippis, who lost both of his legs in a train accident at the age of twelve. Carl Wright was Tony's prosthetist, and he taught Tony how to make artificial legs.  Ten years later, they went into business together as Wright & Filippis. 
AmpuTeam is a completely new and unique approach to providing prosthetic care. It's not about providing just an artificial limb for the patient.  It's about helping someone resume an active life and helping them reach their highest functional goals.  AmpuTeam includes the patient's family members,  physician, physical therapists, and any other healthcare providers as well as fitness clinics, educational forums and recreational opportunities like the AmpuTeam basketball team, golf and bowling clinics, and Camp YesICan.  AmpuTeam also has a peer visitation program in which amputees who are trained leaders visit patients in the hospital who have been, or are about to become, amputees.  Contact the nearest Wright & Filippis office and ask to speak with any certified prosthetists to find out more.
