GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Dr. Gregory Golladay is a surgeon for Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan and is the Clinical Advisor of Spectrum Health's Center for Joint Replacement program. This program at Blodgett Hospital is the first in Michigan to offer MAKOplasty to adult patients with early to mid-stage knee osteoarthritis. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, more than 15 million adults in the U.S. suffer pain and limited mobility caused by osteoarthritis of the knee. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of knee arthritis and a leading cause of disability. The MAKOplasty option, compared to traditional total knee replacement surgery offers these advantages: It's minimally invasivel; it precisely resurfaces only the diseased portion of the knee joint, sparing healthy bone, tissue and ligaments; it allows for patient-specific alignment and positioning of implants; it can result in a shorter hospital stay and offer a faster recovery; patients often say they have a more natural feeling knee after surgery.
