(WOOD) - We do so much to protect our homes and our families, but it's also important to protect your identity.  Jerri Schmidt of Option 1 Credit Union shares some ways they've come up with that everyone can employ to protect themselves from identity theft and help keep their personal information safe.  Here are some tips.  Monitor your credit union and bank accounts regularly.  Set alerts on your accounts about balance levels, large withdrawls and other out of the ordinary activity.  Do your research on offers and companies that tout identity theft protection.  Option 1 is offering a  new service for checking account holders that offers professional recovery services in the event that identity theft of any kind happens to you. Consider protecting your medical identity and records, too.  Another area to assess is how safe your auto is from break-in.
