GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Parenting a child with epilepsy presents challenges, but help is available. A free seminar will be help next week with our partners at Spectrum Health Medical Group and Doctor Daniel Arndt. There are many types of seizures, which range from subtle episodes of staring to jerking movements of arms and legs. Treatments may include medications and parents and their care physicians may suggest a pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit for the evaluation of uncontrolled seizures. Surgery is another possible option. There are additional health concerns to watch for when your child has epilepsy including learning challenges, ADD, depression, headaches, ulcers and chronic fatigue. Helen DeVos Children's Hospital has West Michigan's only pediatric epilepsy program dedicated to infants, children and teens.
