11th annual Scout Salute

A tribute to 9-11

GRAND RAPIDS, MIch. (WOOD) - It's been eleven years since the attacks on America on September 11 and the community is invited to join the President Ford Council, Boy Scouts of America for their annual Scout Salute.  It's the President Ford Council has held a "Scout Salute" remembrance each year from sun up to sun down since September 11, 2012.  The day's events include the following:

7:15 a.m.         The Scout Salute will begin with the lowering of the flag from full- to half-staff

8:46 a.m.         At 8:46 a.m. (the time the first plane hit the first tower), the Remembrance Program will begin. In addition to the Boy Scouts, honor guards from local police, fire and military units will join members of the community in a moment of silence followed by remarks by Steven Ford, President Gerald R. Ford's son

Noon               Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell will honor the men and women who serve the community as members of fire and police departments, EMS and the military

7:45 p.m.         Closing program, featuring bagpipe players and taps performed by veterans, will include remarks from Mike Sulgrove, CEO of the President Ford Council before the final salute and the flag being raised to full-staff
