Project B.A.R.C.

Grand Rapids, MI (WOOD-TV) - Our next Connecting with Community awards finalist is a collaboration between the Humane Society of West Michigan and Kent County Juvenile Detention. Project B.A.R.C. pairs youth and dogs in a unique relationship where both grow together.

For three weeks the dogs leave the shelter and live with the youth in the detention center. The dogs receive training and rehabilitation which helps makes them more adoptable. The youth learn responsibility from caring for the dogs, as well as empathy and compassion.

This program has helped all the dogs going through it to receive adoption. However, "Cole" the most recent graduate dog that is featured in our story is still awaiting adoption. If you are interested in adopting "Cole," please contact the Humane Society of West Michigan .
