Mel Trotter gives 500 food baskets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Five hundred families are receiving Christmas food baskets just in time for the holidays thanks to Mel Trotter Ministries.

The baskets include all the fixings for a traditional holiday meal, including a turkey, and everyday food items such as cereal, soup and canned fruit.

Families pre-registered for 300 of the food baskets are being handed out Thursday at Mel Trotter's retail stores: Grand Rapids (555 28th St. SE), Belding (363 E. State St.), Jenison (7500 Cottonwood Drive, Suite D), Middleville (4525 North M-37) and Sparta (538 S. State St.).

The other 200 food baskets will be available to clients of Mel Trotter's Community Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the 47 Williams St. SW facility in Grand Rapids.

Mel Trotter Ministries is no stranger to providing food to families in need for the holidays. Last month, it handed out 400 Thanksgiving food baskets.
