GRAND RAPIDS. Mich. (WOOD) - The Salvation Army kicked off its 32-hour, bell ringing marathon Thursday morning to bring attention to its Red Kettle Campaign.
Volunteers began ringing bells at 6 a.m. outside Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids.
An anonymous donor will match up to $10,000 that is raised during this marathon. This year, the campaign goal is $1.6 million.
The event will conclude at 2 p.m. Friday. A number of volunteers will ring for two-hour shifts to help demonstrate and reinforce The Salvation Army’s commitment to be available 24/7 to serve the needs of the underserved.
