GRAND RAPIDS Mich. (WOOD) - United States Representative Vern Ehlers presented Robert and Caroline Deppe the Angels in Adoption Award on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at 9 a.m. at Cathedral Square Center in downtown Grand Rapids.

This honor is awarded annually to a couple who has shown exceptional qualities by adopting, nurturing and working diligently to bring out the best in their children, often by overcoming emotional or learning difficulties.

“I am very pleased to recognize Robert and Caroline Deppe for their selfless commitment to improving the lives of children. Their caring and devotion has made an enormous difference for the children they have adopted, and the family sets a profound example of compassion and love,” said Rep. Ehlers

Through Catholic Charities West Michigan (CCWM), Robert and Caroline have been foster parents to 11 children until their own 4 children grew up and moved away from home.

“Catholic Charities West Michigan is pleased to recognize the Deppes for their commitment to children with special needs,” said Deborah J. Nykamp, President and CEO of CCWM.

The CCWM prides itself on providing help and creating hope throughout the 11 county Diocese of Grand Rapids, without regard to religion, ethnicity or background.
