Lowell - Three Community Eyecare Days were held in 2008 to provide free and reduced cost eyecare to the uninsured and underinsured in West Michigan.
One day events were held in Lowell, Hastings and Ionia, bringing hundreds of people in for professional eye examinations by Advanced Eyecare Professionals and follow up care.
The Area Lions Clubs helped cover the cost of lenses for those who were in need of glasses. At each event, there was a representative from the area health department on hand to answer questions and assist patients with obtaining Medicaid coverage.
The Community Eyecare collaborations are a finalist for WOOD TV8's first Connecting Wtih Community Award. Over the next few weeks, we will be profiling eight finalists. The next will air Sunday, December 14 during 24 Hour News 8 at 6pm
