Weather + art = large ArtPrize crowds
Police expect 200,000 people this weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A bright blue sky, pleasant temperatures and more than 1500 pieces of art are the perfect ingredients to bring around 200,000 people to downtown Grand Rapids for the second full weekend of ArtPrize 2012.
That's the official police estimate. But they also said there is plenty of room for everyone.
Police suggest a few things to keep in mind:
- Traffic will be heavy
- There will be intermittent street closures
- Pedestrian traffic will outnumber vehicle traffic
- Pedestrians need to pay attention
- Pedestrians should resist the urge to cross in the middle of the street
"We're just asking folks to please just cross at the cross walks," GRPD Lt. Patrick Dean told 24 Hour News 8. "We have officers at key intersections down here ready to assist them in crossing. Please let us do that. Don't run out into the middle of traffic. Don't run out inbetween vehicles. Just cross at the crosswalk is what we're asking."
