GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - ArtPrize co-founder Rick DeVos spoke with 24 Hour News 8's Brian Sterling on the first day of ArtPrzie 2012.

He talked about a number of issues, including changes this year that extended the initial voting period. He said that change was made after it was consistently suggested. He said that ArtPrize will continue to evolve.

DeVos also responded to requests that ArtPrize release final vote figures -- which it has not done in years past and does not currently intend to do.

"It's a difficult thing to release in a way that protects everyone from that sort of criticism," he said.

DeVos also responded to a recent article in GQ magazine that was skeptical of both ArtPrize as an event and of Rick DeVos himself.

DeVos called the article "predictably snarky" and said that it missed out on some of the great things ArtPrize offers.

"This is not about the art world. It's not about fitting a particular model," he said. "Our goals are not the traditional art event goals. They're much broader, they're much more about engagement  and that conversation that we keep coming back to."
