GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The winner of ArtPrize 2011 will be installed at Cornerstone University as part of a long-term loan.
"Crucifixion" by Mia Tavonatti took first place at the world's largest art competition last year, earning her a quarter of a million dollars.
Now, the 13-foot tall, 9-foot wide, 425-pound stained-glass mosaic will hang in Cornerstone's Seminary Building, the university announced.
"Crucifixion" was originally created as an alter piece for a California Catholic Church, but construction at the church was delayed, prompting Tavonatti to enter the mosaic in ArtPrize.
Installation is set to begin the morning of Sept. 4, but the piece will not be open for public viewing until Sept. 15.
ArtPrize 2012 runs Sept. 19 to Oct. 7.
