ArtPrize extends artist deadline

Artists will be able to register up until June 7

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - ArtPrize organizers say artists are signing up faster than last year causing several venue curators to ask for more time.

Organizers announced today that the artist registration date will be extended from May 24 to June 7 as a result. Connections period between the artists and venues will remain June 21.

More than 1,200 artists have already registered for ArtPrize 2012 .

"We set out to create enough time, but with professional curators making arrangements with artists, the process is requiring more time than we expected," said Catherine Creamer, the executive director of ArtPrize.

According to organizers, many venues and exhibition centers have informal agreements with artists in place, but with curators bringing their own networks of artists to the table, they would like more time to communicate with them.
