Downtown busy on last day of ArtPrize

Much of the art will be dismantled Sunday night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - ArtPrize 2011 officially ended at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Thousands of people hit the streets before most of the art disappears. Many artists will pack up and leave on Sunday night.

Thousands spent a pristine Sunday afternoon absorbing and discussing the art scattered around downtown.

One of the busiest venues was DeVos place, where the winner of ArtPrize, Mia Tavonatti's "Crucifixion" was displayed.

Others fanned out to other parts of the city to see some of the art that will likely be gone by Monday.

ArtPrize-goers also took in some of the more permanent fixtures. Second-place winner "Metaphorest" by Tracy Van Duinen, located on Fulton Street, will remain on the side of the building where it was installed.

"It is very moving," said Diane Long, who went downtown to take in the art on the last day of ArtPrize. "We're just overwhelmed by the talent we have in this world."

But even after two and a half weeks of ArtPrize, many were disappointed that the event is over.

As ArtPrize 2011 wrapped up, organizers said they are already looking forward to 2012.
