A Grand Rapids native, Matt Kirkwood earned his meteorology degree at Central Michigan University - where his minor was geography. While in college he did two interships. One with the National Weather Service office in Muskegon (decommisioned) and the other at WNEM TV5 in Saginaw. That is when he decided to pursue a career in broadcasting.

His first professional job was at WPBN/WTOM in Traverse City from 1996 to 1998. Now with Storm Team 8, he anchors the Noon show weather, provides radio reports for area stations, and updates weather products at woodtv.com.

His hobbies include weight lifting, softball, golf and bowling along with an interest in muscle cars.

Matt, his wife and young twins live in Grand Rapids.
