Leon Hendrix joined the 24 Hour News 8 team in July 2007.

Since he arrived at WOOD TV8, stories have taken him on many interesting adventures throughout West Michigan and the country.

When Michael Jackson died, he covered the events outside the pop singer's Gary, Indiana childhood home. Leon also traveled to Miami to document West Michigan families uniting with their adopted Haitian children after a massive earthquake hit Port Au Prince.

In March 2010, Leon's work was recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters with an award for Best Investigative Story about the actions of the Michigan Department of Corrections before and after a violent incident at a maximum security prison.

Leon's broadcasting career began when he was very young. His first live broadcast was as a volunteer auctioneer at the PBS affiliate in Grand Rapids when he was a freshman in high school.

Leon attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he studied Communications and Spanish. He was also the News and Sports Director for the campus radio station.

After interning at WXMI-TV in Grand Rapids, Leon was hired at WOOD TV8 as a weekend associate producer and assignment editor. He was promoted to reporter a few months later.

Leon currently lives in the Grand Rapids area. He enjoys telling the stories of the people and places in West Michigan - a place he's always called home.
