Since December 2005, Brett Thomas has been the anchor for 24 Hour News 8 Daybreak. He's also the Executive Producer of the newscast, overseeing the content and delivery of the news.

Brett brings a diverse background to the Daybreak anchor chair. He earned BA degrees in History/Political Science and Mass Communications from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. He also gained his teaching certification, and spent two years teaching American history to eighth-graders in Topeka, Kansas.

He then earned his Masters degree in Journalism/Broadcast News from the University of Kansas.

He began his reporting career as an on-air intern in Topeka at KTKA, then moved to Lansing's WILX as a reporter/anchor. He joined 24 Hour News 8 in 1998, and was soon promoted to Weekend Managing Editor and anchor of Weekend Daybreak.

Brett earned an Emmy for a story exposing a deadly medical mistake, and has earned recognition from the Associated Press, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Television and News Photographers Association.

Brett makes his home in Grand Rapids. He's married and has two daughters.

In his spare time he loves to spend time with his family. He loves to fish, camp, golf and explore Michigan. Just getting in the car with his wife and kids and finding a new nook of West Michigan is one of his favorite things to do.
