Grand Rapids, MI (WOODTV) - Triplets are not very common. Genetically identical triplets are even less common. Identical triplets all sharing the same placenta is even less common than that.
When Kristin Reddick learned her pregnancy of triplets was high risk she visited the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. There she met with helpful doctors and nurses that helped explain her boy's treatment and the upcoming procedure.
Since all three boys were sharing the same placenta, they were sharing the same source of nutrition, oxygen, and circulation. One of the boys even had an enlarged heart.
The Reddick family had to deliver the triplets early. They then spent three months in the the Gerber Foundation Neonatal Center at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. This level-IV neonatal intensive care units is one of the largest NICUs in the nation.
Through the great work of all the doctors, nurses and other staff at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, the Reddick's triplet sons are now over a year old and are growing up healthy.
