Rockford, MI (WOODTV) - Today was the ground breaking for the Nate Hurwitz Miracle Field at the Art Van Sports Complex in Rockford.
The miracle field uses specialized playing surface to give youth with disabilities the chance to play. The miracle field will be one of the 16 baseball fields located at the Art Van Sports Complex.
Nate Hurwitz who the miracle field is named after suffered from Duchene's Muscular Dystrophy and passed away eight months ago at the age of sixteen. Nate loved baseball and was instrumental in the vision for a field where everyone could enjoy the game regardless of any disability.
There was also a surprise announcement today from Art Van Furniture. They have donated $50,000 for an all-ability playground to be built on the grounds for all children to enjoy. The Miracle Field is scheduled for completion this September.
