GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The world's largest art competition hasn't even started yet but 24 Hour News 8 has learned where the ArtPrize 2013 finale will take place.
ArtPrize officials said Grand Rapids City Garages 5 and 6 will serve as the venue for this year's awards ceremony.
The garages are located at 265 Market Ave. SW, just along the Grand River.
ArtPrize Marketing Director Todd Herring told 24 Hour News 8 they chose the garage space because it's an unexpected choice.
The City garages currently house salt trucks, street sweepers and police cars.
Herring said while it's a garage space, it represents vital services of the community.
"You never want to see a police car in front of your house, you don't want to see a fire truck, but at the same time we don't live as a community without them," Herring said.
The ArtPrize Finale will take place Oct. 4. WOOD TV8 will air the ArtPrize Countdown and Finale from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
You can be a part of the audience and have access to the ceremony, entertainment, concessions, cash bar, and after-party. The $15 tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Sept. 14. and can be bought in person at The HUB (41 Sheldon Boulevard SE) during HUB hours on Registration Day, on Sept. 18 (Opening Day) at The HUB, and online at artprize.org/tickets (ticket fees apply) at 9 a.m. Sept. 14. The attire is "casual night out."
Top artists chosen by the public and a professional panel will be awarded $560,000 in prizes.
