GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Artist registration for ArtPrize 2012 ends at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The fourth annual downtown Grand Rapids event will take place Sept. 19 to Oct. 7.
The Top 10 winners wil receive cash prizes, with the first-place winner taking home $200,000. The public votes for the winners using mobile devices and the Internet.
The director of artist relations, Kevin Buist, said ArtPrize 2012 will have about the same number of venues and artists as last year but there will be more local curators this year.
That is why organizers extended the deadline for artist registration, allowing more time for the local curators to work with their spaces.
"Each venue is just really starting to come into its own as its own show and that's really exciting work, but it's work that takes time," Buist said.
Artists must make a connection with a venue by June 21.
